To understand any subject, ask yourself six basic questions: “Who?”
“What?” “When?” “Where?” “Why?” and “How?” Estate planning is no
exception. In thinking about an estate plan, ask yourself:

                       1. Who needs an estate plan? Who are your heirs?
                     2. What assets will you leave?
                     3. Where can you go to get help with your estate plan?
                     4. When should your assets be passed?
                     5. Why do you need a formal estate plan?
                     6. How can you accomplish your estate planning goals?

Then think about this: Some of the highest taxes many Americans pay
are those imposed on our estates when we die. If you don’t set up a proper
estate plan, your heirs, whether your family or a favorite charity may actually
be forced to pay taxes on your estate after you die, which defeats or, at the
very least, minimizes the assets you worked so hard to accumulate during
your lifetime. If you set up a proper estate plan, you can minimize the impact
of excessive taxes and change the future for your heirs. You create a lasting
legacy, which is a wonderful gift. Take the time now to answer each one of
these questions, and then commit yourself to implementing a successful estate
plan. To download your Estate Planning Quiz (Exhibit 19.1 ), visit www.
