Vanessa Bolin, a member of
the Richmond Indigenous
Society, said at the protest.
“We're not here to hijack
your movement. We're here
to stand in solidarity.”

Hayden paid tribute to Dorn
as a “fine captain.”
“Many of us, the other
officers, looked up to him,”
Hayden said. “Was very
well-liked, very pleasant.
And his wife still works here.
So a very sad time for our
agency. We will honor him.”
Dorn served 38 years in
the St. Louis Police
Department.
A private memorial service
honoring Dorn's life will be
held Wednesday.

WTHR reported the statue
was controversial at the time
it was erected for a different
reason.
The statue had been a
fixture at Byrd Park ever
since it was erected nearly a
century ago. At that time, the
m o n u m e n t w a s
controversial due to anti-
Italian and anti-Catholic
sentiment, which prevented
it from being placed
alongside Confederate
figures on Monument
Avenue.
