Michael Strahan Recovering From COVID-19

Michael Strahan has tested positive for COVID-19. The football Hall of Famer was notably absent from the set of "Good Morning America" this week and on Thursday co-host Robin Roberts explained why.

"We know that you have noticed that Michael has not been here with us this week," Roberts said. "He wanted us to let you know that he has tested positive for COVID. He's at home quarantining right now."

Co-host George Stephanopoulos added that Strahan was on the mend and grateful for all the well wishes he has received.

"He says thank you for the concern, very grateful for that and the well wishes," he said. "He's also feeling well, looking forward to being back here shortly."

Stephanopoulos explained that all hosts and crew members had been cleared to go back to work by ABC News' parent company, Disney, after contact tracing per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

Strahan joins a growing list of talk show hosts who have contracted the coronavirus. Dave Chappelle was forced to cancel upcoming appearances after he tested positive just before his comedy show scheduled for last Thursday. Chappelle was expected to perform Thursday through Sunday at Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater in Austin, Texas. Those shows were canceled while he quarantines.

Stephanopoulos also tested positive for the virus last year, several days after his wife contracted COVID-19. During a virtual broadcast, he explained to fellow "GMA" hosts that he had been "basically asymptomatic," according to Page Six.

"I’ve never had a fever, never had chills, never had a headache, never had a cough, never had shortness of breath," Stephanopoulos said.
