'Columbo' Actor Dead at 95

Bruce Kirby, best known for his roles in "Columbo" and "L.A. Law," has died at age 95. The character actor's son, John Kirby, shared the news Monday on social media.

"My dear brilliant Dad BRUCE KIRBY passed away peacefully last night at Cedars in Los Angeles at the age of 95," he wrote. "My heart is heavy but grateful for all the extra blessed years together. My Step-Mom ROZ’s Love & devotion was remarkable & a major force in keeping him alive so long."

Although Bruce's TV credits include multiple well-known titles, his most memorable roles were as Sgt. Kramer in "Columbo" and District Attorney Bruce Rogoff in the multiple Emmy Award-winning legal drama "L.A. Law."

Bruce's career began in 1950 in New York, when he made his onstage debut. He worked in theater for five years before finally landing roles in TV, with one of his first most notable performances being as Officer Kissel in 1961's "Car 54, Where Are You?" according to IMDB. From there, Bruce went on to perform in dozens of other TV series, often cast as a police officer. He appeared in "Kojak," "M*A*S*H," "Holmes and Yoyo," and also made guest appearances in "The Rockford Files," "The West Wing," and "The Sopranos."

"Thank You DAD for everything you taught me about Acting & how to have such a strong work ethic while sharing your love for the Arts & the Craft of it all," John wrote. "I will miss You & Love You always. I’m glad you’re up there with Bruno and so many of our loved ones."

In addition to John, Bruce is survived by his wife, Rosalyn. His son Bruno, who was also an actor appearing in roles including "When Harry Met Sally" and "The Godfather: Part II," died in 2006 after a battle with leukemia, People reported.
