World-Class Hot Spot
oday, Grand Central Station in New York City is beauti-
Tful, both as a sight as well as a site. It’s in a thriving, well-
kept neighborhood. However, in the 1970s, it was a different
situation altogether. The area was in the midst of serious decay.
It was crummy, run down, and a destination point for no one
except those entering and leaving the city as quickly as they pos-
sibly could. Who could blame them? If this depressing area
truly represented New York City, I’d want to leave, too.
I’m a New Yorker. I love this city, always have and always
will. So this situation merited my attention, and the opportu-
