".AWord About School
~ While I did not like school, did not do well in school and have not used

much of what I studied in school, I still recommend all young people
complete their education, at least through four years ofcollege.

Why do I recommend this? For the following reasons:

1. High school and college are times to grow up. I believed I knew all
the answers when I was in high school and college, and all I found
out after I left school was how much I did not know.

2. A college degree is a ticket. It means you accomplished something.
It means you focused for four years.If! did not have a collegedegree,
I would never have been allowed into Navy flight school. As a
helicopter pilot, I often let my enlisted crew chiefs flythe helicopter.
Most ofthem were better pilots than me, but because they did not
,) have a college degree, the ticket, the militarywould not let them fly.

3. College gives you the opportunity to explore many different
subjects and interests. At the academy, I was surprised to find out
how much I enjoyed the study of economics. If I had not gone to

fi college, I would not know much about global economic trends and
~ the language economists use.Just knowing a little about GNP versus
~. GDP, and the differences between M 1,M2 and M3, the measure of

money supplies, has made a significant impact upon my finances.
, What Should I Study?

Whenever I am asked by college students, "What do you recommend I
study?" I recommend two things.
