developing his genius.
As my rich dad would say,"Laziness is the assassin ofgenius."
These fivequestions are important questions, so you may want to think
about them as well as the answers before turning the page.
Donald's Response
Environment
I realize my great fortune in coming from the family I did, with
my parents being supportive and being great believers in education.
I often call it the lucky sperm club. But I've known people who have
been in environments that were not conducive to achievement, yet
they prevailed and became very accomplished and successful
anyway.
As Thoreau said, "I know of no more encouraging fact than the
unquestioned ability of a man to elevate his life by conscious
endeavor."
You may have to work harder and longer, but that is preferable
to making excuses and letting your goals slide. My father had very
little to begin with and he just went about making ends meet and
then kept moving forward with his work ethic and natural
intelligence to eventually become very successful. I have great
respect for people who have found their success the hard way.
The correct environment, as Robert points out, is necessary to
nourish your particular talents. Part of our responsibility is to find
the right environment so that we can flourish, or at least use it asa
stepping-stone to the next level. Life experiences can be likened to
school, as in when we reach fifth grade, we expect to go on to the
sixth grade, provided we do what is required. Reaching a place in
adult life that remains the fifth grade for a few decades isn't really
