ith my father’s guidance, I started investing in the stock market when
W I was 14 years old, using my earnings from delivering newspapers.

The profitable proceeds from my first investment paid for three months in

Europe when I was 20 years old. My second investment’s “winnings” paid for
a nice car. No wonder I liked the idea of buying shares of stock in a company
and letting other people do the work to increase the value of my investment.
                   I was hooked.
                       Easy, right? Not exactly.
As I’ve discovered over the subsequent decades, investing is hard work if
you want to be successful over the long haul. It’s easy to make a lot of money
under the right conditions, but it’s even easier to lose much more (and much
faster, too) when the markets turn against you, if you’re not prepared.
