I mention the CASHFLOW Quadrant to help you become clearer
about which quadrantyou might think you have the most chance ofwinning
in. Although the tax laws favor the B and I quadrants, tax laws are not as
important aswhich quadrant you think you have the best chance ofwinning
in.
Our school systems are designed to train people for the E and S
quadrants. That iswhy so many people say, "Go to school to get ajob:' which
is programming for the E quadrant. Or they say, "Go to school so you can
learn a trade or profession. Then you'll always have something to fall back
on." That mind-set is perfect for the Squadrant. (Again, ifyou want to learn
more about the B or I quadrants, there are also books written by Donald
Trump. My personal favorites are The Art of the Deal The Art ofthe
Comeback, and How to GetRich, which encapsulate his thinking asboth a B
and an I.)
Donald and I make more money than most schoolteachers and other
authors simply because most schoolteachers operate from the values ofthe
E quadrant and most authors write from the valuesfound in the Squadrant.
Most financial authors write about living below your means and saving
money. When Donald and I write, we write about expanding your means,
enjoying life and investing your money. Again, the difference in financial
advice can be identified by the different quadrants and the different values
each quadrant represents.
So take a moment and ask yourselfwhich quadrant is best for you. You
may want to close your eyes and sit quietly to listen for your answer. This
quiet process is important because it iscrucial to be true to yourself- to be
true to your own answer.
Donald was fortunate in that he had his father as a role model for the B
and I quadrants. I had a father in the E quadrant. For me to announce that
I was going to be a businessman went against all the values ofmy poor dad,
a man who believed in job security and government entitlement. It was like
I wasjoining the enemy ... becoming a traitor. My dad sincerelybelieved the
rich were greedy and exploited the poor ... and some do. Yet,I did not share
