Sometimes we are required to be
isolated in order to excel, which is - Donald [. Trump
fine, but at the same time we
have to be aware. People can be
over-trained to the extent that they are of no earthly good. Bookwise
versus streetwise surfaces again.
It's possible to be both. In fact, it's mandatory at this point. My
advantage is that I had seen the rough side of real estate from
working with my father and watching him from an early age. It can
be a tough world, and I knew it. I had learned to step to the side of
doorways when collecting rent to avoid being shot. So I knew what I
could be facing. My father was streetwise, and businesswise aswell,
I and considering I went to Wharton, I had the best of both worlds to
learn from .
Maybe we're not all that fortunate. That's OK, too. You can make
the most of what you have and where you're at. Just expect to do
more. What you're willing to do may determine where you're willing
to go. I was willing to add extra hours of study to my college
curriculum, without expecting extra credit or a pat on the back. I did
it on my own, and I believe that's a big reason for my success.
