though my business was successful and profitable, I resigned and left Hawaii
with Kim. I became a teacher, a profession I had not respected and swore I
would never be a part o£ From 1984 to 1994, Kim and I traveled the world
teaching entrepreneurship and investing. In 1994, we retired financially free,
putting into practice all we had been teaching. Kim was 37 and I was 47.
For two years, I went into hiding in the mountains ofsouthern Arizona,
near a little town known as Bisbee, where I spent my time developing the
CASHFLOW board game and writing Rich Dad PoorDad. In 1996, the
first commercial game of CASHFLOWwas played and on April 8, 1997,
my 50th birthday, Rich Dad PoorDad was launched at a small party at
Sharon and Michael Lechter's home. In mid-2000, a producer from Oprah
Winfrey's show called. I walked onstage to greet Oprah, and the rest is
history.
So losing that nylon and Velcro surfer-wallet business was a defining
moment ofmy life. Ifnot for that loss, I might never have become a student
or a teacher.

I'd like to share one of my business successes, but one that took
30 years to evolve.
Just as we are looking to the future financially, trying to keep
our bases covered, New York magazine came out with their June
2006 issue called "2016 Tomorrowland," the projection of what NYC
