In last season's Apprentice, we had a fellow named Lenny who
was originally from Russia. For one task assignment, the apprentices
were supposed to write a jingle. Well, he'd never heard of a jingle.
He didn't know what it was. Some people didn't believe him, and
they thought he was playing dumb. He wasn't playing dumb, because
he started out by humming and then said to try adding some bells,
so he was trying to figure out what a jingle was by thinking of "Jingle
Bells," the Christmas song. I have to hand it to him for trying. But it
proves that it helps to know what something is before trying to do it.
Let's face it, there's a lot to know in this world. If you are in
college today, and you want to be a major player in the world arena,
pay attention and go the extra mile - every single day. Don't wait
for opportunity to come to you.
As Louis Pasteur said, "Chance favors the prepared mind."
Thirdly, do not neglect your life skills, which should include a
healthy dose of financial education. Your financial intelligence can
have a profound impact on your quality of life, no matter what your
interests are. Do not allow blind spots to interfere with or ruin the
blueprint of your life. It helps to think like a builder and know that
every inch of a building, or every aspect of your life, has to be
accounted for. In construction, we can't be haphazard, or hope that
things might work out okay. That's setting the stage for a disaster.We
have to know.
One reason I'm known asa great builder is because I am thorough.
Thoroughness is not a choice, it is a prerequisite. Don't view your
financial education as a choice unless you want to encounter big
problems later on. Doa review of your financial status once a week
to begin with. See it being as necessary as doing your laundry.
Lastly, spend some time on your focus. You should try to discover
YOur ambitions and passions, if you haven't already. One good
question to ask yourself is:
