Two Extremes
t So those are your two extremes. It's a free country and your choice. I

made my choice years ago when I was a kid in fifth grade, reading about the
great explorers such asColumbus, Marco Polo and LeifErickson. I dreamed
offollowing in their footsteps all over the world, and that's exactlywhat I've
done. The difference is, I can now travel around the world and check on my
holdings electronically, in less time than it took for Columbus to cast off
the dock. The world today is a 24/7 market. Trillions ofdollars are trading
hands every day. That is why it amuses me when I meet people who are
looking for ajob or for a pay raise or wondering how they are going to make
afewextra dollars. Obviously, they livein a different world than I do. Today,
a person can live in the most remote parts of the world and still be doing
businesswith the rest ofthe world.
~ Those who live in a free world have the option to choose the kind of
world they want to live in. Instead ofbecoming angry with globalization,
asmany people are, I'd rather do my best to keep up with it. Recently, most
of us heard of the riots in France. The riots were about demanding job
security. The students wanted the government to write rules that make it
impossible for businesses to fire people. While I understand their concerns
and desire for job security, I am afraid those young students are not living in
this new reality.
When people ask me what they should do, I recommend they travel to
France, then fly to New York and Los Angeles, then fly to Hong Kong,
Singapore, Shanghai, India, on to Dubai, to Prague, to London, and to
Dublin, and then return home. It will be the best $25,000 or lessyou could
havespent.
t A friend of mine in Arizona alwaysvacations in Europe and took my

adVice and went around the world. When he came back, all he said was,
"Wow. Have my eyes been opened. I cannot believe how much faster the
rest of the world is moving. Hong Kong and Shanghai blew me away. If
